  • Midsummer Festival: Tree Walk

    Pickering Midsummer Festival 2026
Beck Isle Museum Bridge Street, Pickering, United Kingdom

Explore the folklore of trees on the Pickering Beck and Castle route! During the approximately two mile circular walk, arboreal devotee and author of The Folklore of Trees will talk about the legends, secrets and myths of the trees on our doorstep. Optional add-on: we'll end the walk with a sandwich buffet in The Forest and Vale Hotel garden, home to a 300+ year old sweet chestnut tree.

  • Sally Coulthard

Pickering Book Tree 43a Market Place, Pickering

Join us in conversation with bestselling author and columnist Sally Coulthard. We’ll discuss the hidden history of the coast through objects found along its shoreline and brought to life in Sally’s new book, A Brief History of the Coast in 100 Objects. Described as “a true celebration of the flotsam and jetsam left by time and tide” (Rose Ferraby) and “a wonderfully rich and very different narrative that reeks of tang and pungent atmosphere” (Alistair Moffatt), this is a much anticipated follow up to A Brief History of the Countryside in 100 Objects, which was a Waterstones Best Book of 2024 for Nature Writing, and is very popular here in the Book Tree too!

  • Naomi Kelsey

Join us in conversation with Naomi Kelsey to hear about her gripping new historical fiction novel, Pale Mistress, an innovative and compelling reimagining of Othello from the point of view of Bianca, giving voice to this mysterious and maligned character.
