Lizzie Pepper

We're excited to host children's author Lizzie Pepper for a special event at Pickering Book Tree during the summer holidays!

Lizzie will lead a storytelling session, taking extracts from her new eco-adventure story and looking at a future world from the viewpoint of our most treasured local wildlife. 

The Last Year of The Wild is a brand-new adventure series which sees characters from the natural world face a futurist landscape in 2060, following the impacts of climate change. Inspired by working in the conservation sector for over twenty years, Lizzie wishes to encourage readers and families to love the natural world through the power of positive storytelling.

The session will be focused on the story, the art of creating a good story and the environmental theme. Lizzie will read from the first book of the series, plus you’ll hear a sneak peek of the next book which will be published in September! You’ll hear about how to craft a great story, and will have the chance to discuss both storytelling and nature in this interactive event. 

The book and event are aimed at readers aged 8+ (there's no upper limit!), but are suitable for younger children at parents' discretion.

About Lizzie Pepper

Transfixed at an early age with a deep curiosity and love for the natural world, Lizzie has been on a mission for the last ten years to write an adventure series of five novels which reflect the environmental challenges our planet faces. The story is told through the eyes of wild creatures as they tackle the effects of a future world created by climate change.

Having been fortunate enough to work in the conservation sector for over twenty years, Lizzie now wishes to embed her natural knowledge and passion for the environment into her children’s stories. Winter is Lizzie’s debut novel and is the first book of The Last Year of the Wild series. The second novel of the series, Spring Equinox, will be released in September 2023. 

Lizzie was born in York and often visits her family home near Rosedale, a place she calls her ‘homelands’. Working alongside her 19-year-old niece, the talent artist Grace Moran, this new Series is very much a family project.
