About the event

Join us for the perfect combination on a Friday evening!

Sloemotion Distillery is a local business with sustainability and nature at the heart of what they do. We're excited to partner with them for a fantastic event in the bookshop.

At the event you’ll taste samples of three delicious Sloemotion spirits, while learning about the botanicals that go into them and why they’re so special during a talk by Emma Cansick.

There’ll be a pop-up shop so you’ll have the opportunity to buy a full bottle of your favourite. The bookshop will be open exclusively for those at the event so you can enjoy delving into the world of botanical spirits alongside relaxed book browsing in the cosy atmosphere of the Book Tree.

From Sloemotion Distillery:

“Founded in 2002, Sloemotion Distillery is an artisan business creating great tasting spirits and liqueurs. We are based at Green Farm, in the village of Barton-le-Willows, near to the market town of Malton, Yorkshire’s food capital. The business began almost by accident, when a farming initiative to improve wildlife habitats resulted in an abundance of sloes. To Joff Curtoys, an ecologist by training, who had grown up drinking his father’s home-made Sloe Gin, an idea began to take shape and Sloemotion was born.

We forage at Green Farm and the surrounding countryside through the seasons for hedgerow fruits and botanicals to use in the creation of our products.

The fields, rich meadows, woodlands and especially the tangled hedgerows in North Yorkshire provided the inspiration for the business and are still at the heart of every decision made.”
